Scary Stats

1. 651,000 people lost their jobs last month...I can't even imagine and my heart is aching for these people.

2. Most foods that people eat travel 1600.00 miles before it is served up to eat. This is another plug for growing your own foods or to buy locally.

Lastly, the leading vegetable eaten in the USA for children over 3 is.....

FRENCH FRIES (vegetable?!?!?!, really)

and fries are the number 3rd most eaten vegetable for children under 3.

no wonder obesity is running rampant in the our country.

Terrible isn't it? I work in this field and I think one of the major areas public health campaigns have gone wrong is that they focus on food & obesity, so soooo many parents don't feed their children healthier foods because, in their words "they aren't fat". They don't get that kids can get diabeties, high cholesterol, have poor attention and are at risk of heart disease, obesity etc. I think somehow we have to get the message across that everyone no matter what shape, size or age needs to make sure they get the minimum recommended 5 a day (that is a mix of 5 fruits and veg, i.e. 3 veg and 2 fruits) for cancer prevention, diabeties prevention, heart health etc.
Over here potatoes are not considered a veggie.

My Travels
